    1.  Inquirer's Meeting/February Meeting (You are Invited), Sunday, February 16, 2003, 1:00 p.m.

On Sunday, January 19, 2003, the chapter held our first year informational meeting, inviting inquirers to study, to pray, and to join us in the contemplation of God’s Word on a monthly basis, starting the 3rd Sunday of every month.  Eight inquirers joined us.  A number of the folks had been there before, four or five were new faces.  The meeting went real well.  There was genuine joy in the place, with inspirational talks, and participation from all the inquirers.  Also, Sr. Alice Marie Schmidt, OP, chaplain at Mercy Medical Center, joined our group again for the meeting.  We invited her to join us as her spiritual director.  As time and obligations permit, hopefully she will join us in that office.  Even if she is not able to, she is always welcome in that office.  Our next meeting will be the 3rd Sunday of February, 1:00 p.m., at St. Paul’s Student Center, 1915 University Drive, Boise, Idaho.  The topic will be on Community and the Dominicans.  Questions?  Call John at 375-2532, Phil at 362-0894, or Mark at 343-6894.

    2.  Message from Karen Woods, OPL, President, Lay Provincial Council

    A.  I have a small supply, more coming, of a CD made by our brothers in Krakow.  The title is Alma Redemptoris and the content is Marian chants among other things.  It's a beautiful CD.  The best advantage to us is that it includes the Salve Regina, Dominican style, which all of us would like to learn, right?  The Salve is, in a way, the Dominican anthem, but it is difficult to sing because of the range.  I've heard other Salves on tape that were set too high to sing along.  With this one I can sing along easily.  It would give our chapters a really good way to learn to sing the Salve and to sing it correctly, with the sweeping rhythm of Gregorian Chant.  The words are provided in the CD, though the watermark on the page interferes some and the print is very small; nevertheless, it would be possible to type up the words for everyone to follow along as they sing with the CD.  Cost is $17.00.  Proof of the benefits of this CD is that I listened to it on a jammed, stop-and-crawl freeway and was entirely mellow through it all!  Karen

    B.  THANK YOU FR. MATANIC, OP.

I have been notified that the Provincial Chapter which has been in session for a couple of weeks now, has approved our request that fr George continue as our Provincial Promoter.  George has agreed to do so.  We have him for 4 more years (and perhaps many beyond, till he's a really, really old man).  Let's say a prayer of thanks for this great favor. Karen Woods, OPL (kwoodsopl@juno.com)
